New blockchain center opens in New York amid cryptocurrency market woes

The city of New York has a new blockchain center.
Opened by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) as part of a partnership with FuturePerfect Labs (an affiliate of FuturePerfect Ventures) and GBBC Labs (a subsidiary of the Global Blockchain Business Council), the new facility is expected to play a significant role in developing the city’s blockchain ecosystem.

Automated teller machines (ATMs) dedicated to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency are increasing in number and has exceeded 4,000 ATMs worldwide.
According to data from Coin ATM Radar, there are 4,167 cryptocurrency ATMs worldwide at the time of writing. Breaking the number down into location, the top three countries are the United States of America with 2,499 ATMs, Canada with 705 ATMs and Austria with 267 ATMs.
South Korea Government Approves Seven out of 21 Cryptocurrency Exchanges’ Security Policy

Some of South Korea’s biggest cryptocurrency exchanges have passed a government security audit, but the majority could be exposed to attacks, local tech news outlet ZDNet reported on Jan 10.
Bithumb, Coinone and Korbit, in addition to four other major exchanges, satisfied investigators during the audit, which took place between September and December 2018.

If you live in New York City, your eyes probably glaze over subway ads offering mattress discounts or taxi tops promoting various drinking establishments.
But those taking note over the past few days would have noticed a newcomer: Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2014 by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. The company rolled out a number of ads on subway cars, taxi tops, bus stops and even took out a full-page ad in the New York Times.
